Governor Information

Schools have governing bodies to help them fulfil the school's mission to provide the best education possible for their children.

The Local Governing Body is made up of a number on individuals:

  •  Parent Governors -  elected by parents of the pupils
  • Community Governors  -  elected by the Governing Body
  • Staff Governors  -  Teachers from the school
  • The Head teacher is also a Governor

The Local Governing Body has a strategic role in ensuring the school fulfils its's mission by:

  • thinking and working strategically to help raise standards
  • monitoring and evaluating progress towards the school's priorities and targets
  • supporting the Head teacher and staff and challenging them

The key words for describing the Local Governing Body is as a critical friend - somebody who encourages, supports and challenges.

We have to be able to recognise when:

  • the school deserves recognition and celebration
  • when support and challenge is required

Some of the things we do as a Local Governing Body:

  • visits to the school
  • attend school events
  • linking to particular areas of the curriculum such as literacy, numeracy, special education and social, moral, spiritual and cultural education
  • social events
  • inviting staff to give presentations to the Governing Body, so that they can tell us what is happening in their area

Sidney Stringer Primary Academy Governing Body is committed to:

  • working as a team
  • knowing our school
  • having effective meetings - held twice termly
  • attending training and development events to make sure we have the skills to perform well

creating a good relationship with parents, carers and all those who work with the school to provide support

Governance

The school will be run by its own Board of Governors which will be accountable to the Academy Trust which will oversee the new school as well as Sidney Stringer Academy.

Chair of Governors

I came to Coventry to attend Coventry University (Lanchester Polytechnic) in 1973and fell in love with the city. I completed my undergraduate degrees and doctorate in Coventry and spend ten years in research posts at Warwick and Birmingham Universities before working for 20 years in Local Government at Coventry City Council. My local government career included 10 years with Education and Children’s Services and 5 years as Assistant Chief Executive. Since retirement I have worked part-time as a project management consultant.

I have previous experience as the Chair of Governors at a Coventry Primary School and became Director of Sidney Stringer Multi Academy Trust (MAT) and Chair of Governors at Sidney Stringer Primary Academy in 2015 shortly after the primary school opened. I firmly believe that education is the door to opportunity and I am committed to working with schools in the MAT to achieve the best possible outcomes for all pupils.
